Meet Us

My name
is Christi Kerlin Barr, owner and instructor of Americus Dance Experience. I hold a Bachelor of Science
degree in Dance Education from the University of Georgia. I am a lifetime resident of Americus and grew
up studying dance at various studios in Americus and the surrounding areas. I have studied jazz, tap,
ballet, pointe, modern, hip hop, ballroom, and other forms of dance. While a student at UGA and since,
I had many opportunities to teach, choreograph and perform in various dance classes, concerts and performances.
I am very pleased to teach dance and be a part of the local arts and theatre in my hometown. My mother, Becky
Kerlin, assists me in running studio operations, teaching piano, and being an all-around wonderful "dance mom."

Meet Our Teachers
Christi graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dance Education.
In addition to dance technique, theory, and choreography classes, she has completed courses in anatomy, dance science, injury
prevention, and movement analysis. She has also taken education courses in psychology, theory, and working
with students of various needs and abilities.
Becky Kerlin is a music teacher at Sumter County Primary School. For many years she has also taught MOVE, a program in which
students learn dance and movement skills in an effort to improve motor and movement skills as well as reading and other
scholastic areas. She assists in teaching our younger dance students and teaches piano lessons.
We're excited to have Sami Mugridge as our assistant teacher this year! Sami is a dancer in our advanced class and is an accomplished performer. She
is a junior at Americus-Sumter County High School and has performed roles in Peter Pan, The Grinch, Robin Hood, The Nutcracker, & Alice in Wonderland. She will be assisting with our youngest students.

Experience
Christi teaches all of the dance classes at the studio. She
has been teaching dance since high school at area dance studios and schools. While in college, she taught classes at
Alice DePass Studio of Dance in Watkinsville, GA, located near Athens. She has also taught and choreographed for Pink
Slipper School of Dance in Leesburg, GA as well as the Terrell, Lee, and Webster County schools. She has and continues
to be a guest artist/teacher in the Sumter County Schools and brings students to perform for area students. She also
teaches dance courses at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus. Christi is an active member of the Sumter
Players and has served as the choreographer as well as a performer in many productions, including White Christmas,
Chicago, South Pacific, Into the Woods, The King &
I, Oklahoma!, Guys and Dolls, The Odd Couple, and The Sound of Music.
